German Packaging Award for B+K U-Pack® with split carrying handle
"We are delighted that we are once again one of the winners of the German Packaging Award", said Inga Böhlke, head of the Consumer Packaging Business Unit at Bischof + Klein. In 2019, the company won the German Packaging Award in the category of sustainability. "This award is additional motivation for us. We want to offer our customers a packaging solution that meets their requirements perfectly in terms of both sustainability and efficiency." In the new design, the handle is split in the middle and no longer has to be folded. This reduces material build-up by up to 500 μm. Consequently, the side gusset no longer gapes open and the concertina effect is eliminated entirely. This means that an additional 20 percent of empty bags can fit on a pallet.
The optimised handle leads to additional cost advantages in filling, palletisation, logistics and storage. The decreased freight volume also leads to reduced CO2 emissions. Another plus: the entire surface of the carrying handle can be printed. The printed image remains intact despite the fact that the handle is split.
The B+K U-Pack® is available in various container sizes and with varying equipment. It can be filled cleanly through both the bottom and the top. The resealable closure ensures the product's freshness and shelf life. At present, it can be produced with a PCR content of up to 43 percent for market segments without food conformity.
