Thousands of kilometres of film saved
Bischof + Klein has published its fifth sustainability report in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative). It documents the internationally operating, family-owned company's progress and activities under economic, ecological and social aspects. This also includes the environmental statement according to EMAS.
One of the focuses in the 2014 reporting year was the expansion and modernisation of the plants (EUR 30 million). Bischof + Klein made significant process in the sparing use of resources, through optimised procedures in setting up the gravure printing presses, for example, which enabled start-up scrap to be reduced by approx. 2,400 kilometres of film sheet. With new recipes and designs, Bischof + Klein in turn succeeded in reducing material consumption for packaging. One example: thanks to a completely new design, the "Twister Plus" wicketed bag for tissue products requires around seven percent less material. Based on an order volume of 10 million units per year, the new wicketed bag enables over 14 tonnes of material to be saved.
One of the highlights in the reporting year was also the award of the German Federal Government's CSR prize for exemplary, responsible management. In its verdict, the jury praised the various part-time models, which help to improve the work-life balance, and the company's forgoing temporary workers, amongst other aspects.
