New sustainability report

20. August 2012

Bischof + Klein's new sustainability report is available.

Last year, Bischof + Klein became the first company within the industry in Germany to publish a sustainability report according to the GRI standard (Global Reporting Initiative). Key economic data, the EMAS-certified environmental statement (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) and facts concerning the film specialist's social commitment are contained in this as well as results referring to the more economical use of raw materials and energy. The company draws conclusions from its sustainability activities and sets itself new goals.

In close co-operation with customers, B+K has minimised the wall thickness of certain products, achieving material reductions of up to 22%. Thanks to their switching to flexible packaging solutions from Bischof + Klein, customers have reduced the volume of material used for packaging by up to 80% in comparison with the hard packaging which has previously been used. The management's stance is as follows: "Now, more than ever before, we are convinced that tailor-made packaging solutions manufactured from plastic and plastic laminate materials are the right answer to the question concerning sustainable packaging solutions."

In 2011, the B+K-GROUP's investments amounted to around €27 million. Of this, the company invested approx. €18.5 million at its German sites in Lengerich and Konzell. Sustainability also plays a major role in this regard, particularly under the aspects of resource and energy efficiency. Quote from the sustainability report: "According to B+K's customers, no other manufacturer of flexible packaging and technical films offers such technological diversity. We want to maintain this advantage over the competition."

Bischof + Klein will provide a copy of the sustainability report to interested parties on request.
