Resource efficiency

14. February 2012

Producing more with less – this is roughly the concept which lies behind the key term "resource efficiency".

In the production industry, use of material and energy makes up around 46 percent of the production costs. Whoever succeeds in achieving savings here is being kind to both nature and his wallet at the same time. Industry and commerce are therefore working on ways to use resources more efficiently on the road to sustainable production. The Lengerich-based packaging and film manufacturer Bischof + Klein has already achieved major success in this regard. The family-owned company was used as an example in the "Cost reduction through resource efficiency" series of events offered by the North Westphalian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Association of German Engineers, the Münster Chamber of Trade and the Effizienz-Agentur NRW.

Around 20 participants followed sustainability manager Angelika Lütke Lengerich's explanations with interest. She reported on the measures implemented by Bischof + Klein to use material and energy more efficiently. During a subsequent tour, the visitors gained an impression of the diversity of production and the extensive sustainability management activities at B+K.

"Resource efficiency is a prime example of how environmental protection and economy go hand-in-hand", explained Angelika Lütke Lengerich. Nature is protected by the reduced use of raw materials. At the same time, the company's costs are reduced. Bischof + Klein benefits from the knowledge of its experts within the company, but also works intensively together with external specialists, suppliers and customers. "Continuous progress in resource efficiency makes a significant contribution towards our competitiveness."
