Success motivates

07. October 2013

Bischof + Klein has published its third sustainability report based on the international GRI standard (Global Reporting Initiative).

B+K documents its sustainability activities over 75 pages. The environmental statement for the 2012 reporting year is incorporated. The report focuses on the responsible use of resources, high energy efficiency, in-novative packaging and film solutions plus the work-life balance.

With flexitime and home office agreements, the company is enabling employees in certain areas of the company to better co-ordinate their work with the needs of their family. If desired, women can initially return to work part-time following pregnancies or periods of time for bringing up children. Requests by males for parental leave are still comparatively rare. Employees who care for family members are also benefiting from the more flexible working hours.

Investments in modern technology, process optimisation and improved recipes enabled a further increase in energy efficiency and a reduction in material use during the reporting period. For ex-ample, minimising the wall thickness of side gusseted bags for cleaning materials reduced their weight by 13 percent. The company can also reveal reductions in the area of diffuse emissions caused by the use of solvents. In an interdisciplinary workshop entitled "Energy Vision 2020", en-ergy consultants, representatives of various specialist companies and B+K experts developed an innovative energy concept which is to be implemented over the coming years.

Bischof + Klein remains the market leader in adhesive-free films for protecting the surface of plas-tic sheeting. In 2012, the company succeeded in switching large volumes of protective films for the PVC window profile market to solvent-free production. "The progress documented by our sustaina-bility report is motivating us to undertake further efforts", explains sustainability manager Angelika Lütke Lengerich. Bischof + Klein's subsidiaries will also be included in the sustainability report in the future.
