Space for learning
B+K is one of the region's biggest training companies. At present, 77 young people are undergoing training at B+K Lengerich, 61 of them in the trade sector. Training supervisor Hans-Gerd Kröger is extremely satisfied. On 18 workbenches, his protégées can now machine workpieces or construct small lines – three of the workplaces are dimensioned more generously to enable this. "Projects can also be processed over a longer period of time here."
All of the workplaces are equipped with height-adjustable vices, a set of tools and testing equipment, a magnetic board for attaching construction plans as well as compressed air and electrical connections. Four of the workplaces are arranged in the form of a training island and are intended specifically for the numerous adolescents who complete their work experience course at B+K. This is where they acquire initial experience of working with metal material.
Further equipment includes drills, a circular saw, a milling machine and a lathe. The new LED fluorescent tubes ensure friendly, bright light in the room, which has been extended by approx. 60 m². The trainees were also involved in the conversion work. They installed some of the electrical cables and pneumatic lines, fitted the workbenches and assembled the machine tools.
"Our number of trainees has grown constantly over the past few years, which is why it was necessary to extend the training workshop", explains Hans-Gerd Kröger. The training supervisor has a good overview. All trade sector trainees undergo basic metalworking training in the training workshop. He also teaches the industrial mechanics the basics of control system technology and how to operate the lathes and milling machines properly here. All up-and-coming specialists at B+K subsequently undergo practical training, primarily on the modern production lines within the company.
