Silver medal for Bischof + Klein

01. April 2020

Packaging and film specialist Bischof + Klein is delighted about a further silver medal for the company's sustainable management. It was awarded by EcoVadis, the sustainability assessment platform for global supply chains.

According to EcoVadis, Bischof + Klein scores higher than the industry average in all assessments and is amongst the top 11 percent of the companies assessed within the plastics industry. "This award confirms our efforts to produce sustainable product protection for all types of goods," said a delighted Angelika Kotscha, sustainability manager at B+K.

The family-owned company, whose headquarters are located in Lengerich, was particularly convincing in terms of its environmental performance. Bischof + Klein scored 70 out of a possible 100 points in this discipline. This firstly involves environmentally-friendly, resource-saving and energy-efficient production processes. However, sustainable product development is also required, as in the case of the recyclable side gusseted bag for our customer Hippolyt. Since 2019, this manufacturer of feed for horses has no longer been offering its products solely in plastic buckets but also in environmentally-friendly bags.

Flexible packaging contributes to reducing emissions caused by road traffic. It is naturally lighter and requires less space, especially in its unfilled condition. The development of single-origin laminates also enables the used packaging to be returned to the reusable material cycle. This too contributes to the sparing use of resources.

Covering 21 criteria, the EcoVadis assessment is subdivided into subject areas such as labour and human rights, the environment, ethics and sustainable procurement. Bischof + Klein welcomes the opportunity to clearly demonstrate the progress achieved in its sustainability management.
