Diversity impresses

01. February 2012

Packaging was the centre of attention at a conference conducted by the "Centre for Sustainable Corporate Management" (ZNU) at Bischof + Klein.

The Lengerich-based packaging and film manufacturer provided representatives of well-known foodstuff producers and the packaging industry with a report on its activities as part of its sustainability management. The presentation by development engineer Carsten Salker, who outlined the ecological aspects of modern, flexible packaging and reported on the latest developments in the field of replenishable raw materials, met with great interest.

B+K is the only ZNU partner to represent the important sector of flexible packaging. The objective of this co-operation between the University of Witten/Herdecke and around 40 companies in Germany is to promote sustainable management in the foodstuffs industry. The Centre offers an independent platform for discussion concerning the economic, ecological and social aspects of sustainability between producers, service providers, commerce and science.

During the tour of the company, the participants were also noticeably impressed by the diversity of production and the size of the facility. Sustainability manager Angelika Lütke Lengerich: "Our headquarters in Lengerich bring all of the production steps required to manufacture flexible packaging and technical films together under one roof. Our visitors had never seen anything like this before."
